How does a house concert or garden concert work?
House or garden concerts generally take place on Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Anyone with a love for music can host a house concert. As a host of a house concert you invite 15 to 30 friends or family. You take care of the audience, and audience members can bring their own snacks/drinks or you can provide these. I will take care of the original music. I play acoustically (guitar and vocals) or I can bring a small PA/speaker.
All the guests you have invited are asked to give a donation at the end of the concert. Every guest can decide what donation they’d like to give. Or the event can be ticketed where people have to pay a ticket price of €10/€15 at the start of the concert. After the concert people also have the opportunity to buy merch and chat to me. As a host of the house concert you are responsible to get enough guest to cover a minimum fee of €250. If just 10 guests pay €15 and you pay a €100 fee (€150+€100) you’ve already hit the minimum/base fee.
About Jane Willow
I’m a Dutch, Irish folk musician who moved to Dublin in 2011 to focus on music. I’ve performed at Vicar Street, Whelan’s, Temple Bar Tradfest, Body & Soul and Electric Picnic. I’ve opened for Glen Hansard, The Unthanks, Paddy Casey, Andy Irvine, Kíla, David Kitt and more. My upcoming debut album (late 2021) features string arrangements by Joe Csibi (Head of RTE Concert Orchestra). With Dave Hingerty on drums (Glen Hansard, Josh Ritter) and guest performances by Steve Wickham (The Waterboys) and more. As a musician I’ve played many house concerts, weddings, support slots and headline gigs.
